We are the proud owners of one cool dog. When we first got him, Littlelish wanted to call him mini pup but we knew he wouldn’t stay a mini pup forever so we decided to call him Buddy.
Buddy is a fox red labrador. He is also the most loyal and loving dog you could ask for. Fiercely protective of his beloved family and home, he guards it night and day from pigeons and postmen.
Recently PetPlan Dog Insurance contacted us to see if we would be interested to find out about The Secret Life Of Our Pet for a special joint campaign they were running with Universal Studios.
Both Littlelish and I are huge lovers of animals and funny movies so we knew it would be the perfect movie for us. Full of hilariously funny one liners, we spent the entire time giggling away at the pets and their quirky personalities. Littlelish loved Chloe, the fat cat who wasn’t interested in anyone but herself and food and Gidget, the fluffy pomeranian who is typically cute but discovers she is also brave and daring.
Each animal leads a Secret Life full of adventure and mischief. The question was what did our dog Buddy’s Secret Life involve? Did he have a penchant for heavy metal music like Leonard the Poodle? #Ad
For our investigation we needed to set up a special camera (this was kindly gifted by PetPlan as part of the campaign) to monitor him throughout the day while we were not home. With the camera we were able to see Buddy in the lounge, his main hang out while we were out and about for the day. We could log in to the camera to check in on him as well as record his movements to sd card.
After a month of filming we had plenty of footage to go through. So just what did Buddy get up to in his Secret Life?
Well he spent a large proportion of his time sleeping, moving from one comfy spot to another…. presumably checking which one was the comfiest! But don’t be fooled, this sleeping beauty is always on high alert. The world’s best guard dog, with supersonic hearing, he can hear the tiniest of feet shuffling down the road. Up like a shot, leaping to the back of the sofa, Buddy stands tall and barks fiercely to warn off any potential baddies. Once he is done saving the day, he goes back to a bit more sleeping, mooching in and out of the living room. Occasionally he attempts to catch flies but stealth isn’t quite his forte.
And all the while, just like Max in the movie, he is waiting for us to come home. His favourite people in the world, we are the highlight of his day. He is giddy with delight when he sees us and loves nothing more than to play and race around the children in the garden, play fetch with a ball or go for a long walk in the countryside. He doesn’t have a secret life, we are his world!
Sure he may be a pain, leave muddy foot prints all over the clean kitchen floor, pull the thread out of our new cable knit cushions as he jumps up on the sofa to play guard dog but he is our Buddy and our lives just wouldn’t be the same without him.

Aaaw we have a Buddy too ;-)
And he’s currently barking his head off at your Buddy in the video lol
What a fun post. Buddy is a great guard dog, much like ours. Great to see what they do get up to when we are not at home.
Wow Buddy is the most handsome boy, you can tell he is a red fox labby, my parents have one too but I think Buddy might be even better looking! shh Mich x

Brilliant! What a great idea, to take a look at what the dog is up to whilst you are away. He looks absolutely gorgeous!
What a fun idea of seeing what pets get up to when you’re not home

Ahh this is so cute! I don’t have a pet, but I can hear my next door neighbours’ dog barking as their car turns into the street. It’s mad how he knows they’re home. Every day, without fail, before they’ve even parked in their drive.
Buddy is just so gorgeous… So sweet that you could see what he was up to during the day too! I need one of those for my husband! :D
This is so cool. I’d love to know what Harry gets up to when we’re not in. I bet he walks on all the surfaces he’s usually not allowed on and he’s definitely having a play in the flower pot on my bookshelf. I’ve already collected plenty of evidence ;)
