Yesterday I joined a group of mummy bloggers at Lakeside Arts centre in Nottingham to work on the new Luminarium, Exxopolis. We met the lovely Kim and Emily from Architects of Air who set about the rather challenging task of explaining how to actually glue together a giant coloured pvc stained glass window…. and let me tell you it is not as easy as you might think!

PVC is shiny on one side and dull on the other but even spotting the difference between dull and shiny proved difficult to the untrained eye! The shiny side of the PVC forms the outer structure of the sculpture and the dull side the inner. The windows are put together in a penrose geometric pattern as often found in islamic architecture. Each individual shape must be seamed together with the next shape connecting the shiny side to the dull side with an exact half each seam. Make your head hurt? Mmmmm it was rather complicated. There was also the fact that this sculpture is a giant inflatable that must withstand all weather conditions and travel the world from -20 degrees in Sweden to the Arizona desert. No pressure then!

As I had never met any of the other mummy bloggers in person before it was good to connect the faces and personalities to the blogs and I had some really lovely chats in between concentrating quite intently on the task at hand. It was great for me, as a new blogger, to pick their brains on blogging tips in particular how they get twitter to work for them (I am so majorly overwhelmed by it every time I log in!). I found that quite a few of us shared interests, theatre, design, vintage, bicycles, charity shops and of course blogging and children! I felt immediately accepted by my fellow East Midland bloggers Alexander residence, The Ana Mum Diary, Minibreak Mummy, My gorgeous boys, Lovechicliving, Fragments from Firfly Phil, The Crumby Mummy, Helloit’sgemma, Baby Budgeting, Mummy Musings and lastly but of course by no means least the famous Mammasaurus who was visiting Nottingham on her UK tour raising money for #blogitforbabies  a Save The Children campaign. So thank you, it was a pleasure to meet you all :)

Cannot wait to see the sculpture fully inflated and admire our hard work in all its glory, preferably without leaks, fingers crossed!

Don’t worry you are not too late to reward us for our hardwork. You can still text XVRL71£1 to 70070 for #Blogitforbabies, Save The Children campaign.

This Thursday I am going on a bit of an outing and I’m really excited about it! I’m heading to Lakeside in Nottingham to participate along with a group of East Midland bloggers in the creation of one of the 12 windows in the new Luminarium EXXOPOLIS by Architects of Air. If you’ve never seen the Luminarium, it is a giant colourful, inflatable sculpture that you can walk inside. It is amazing! The new Luminarium will embark on a tour around the world starting its journey in Nottingham at the Wheee! Children’s theatre and dance festival at Lakeside Arts from 2-9th June. Wheee! culminates in a family weekend on the 9 and 10 June, with free craft, art, spontaneous performance and fun in the parkland around the arts centre, plus even more shows to choose from. Book shows now, the weekend attracted over 4,000 visitors last year.

We are also doing our bit to help dedicated blogger Mammasaurus raise money for the #blogitforbabies campaign for Save The Children. Blog it for Babies is raising money for selected equipment for a delivery room in a healthcare clinic in Bangladesh where 1 in 19 children do not live to see their fifth birthday because access to basic services such as healthcare are so limited. She will be joining us in Nottingham for the day as one of the stops on her UK fundraising tour. In return for our hard work making this amazing experience, which families all over the world will enjoy, we would love you to sponsor us £1.

All you need to do is just TEXT: XVRL71£1 to 70070.

Thank you
