As an interior design lover and collector of pretty things, I’ve noticed a pattern emerging when it comes to my obsessions. Art, bowls, throws and lamps are my weaknesses.
Every time I see a beautifully designed bowl, throw or lamp I get excited. As a blogger who spends a lot of time looking at lovely things you can imagine I spend large proportion of my day falling in love, which just like the real thing can be wonderful but also dangerous!
I’m always on the look out for gorgeous products especially if they also come with a good price tag. I have my favourite haunts but I also love being surprised by new and interesting places to feed my obsessions.
First Choice Lighting are one such new find. An online lighting shop stocking a whole host of designs in lighting ranging from desk lamps to chandeliers, they have some amazing lamps. I may have been admiring their range of lamps for quite some time. It got me thinking about where my new lamps might go (hypothetically speaking of course) and how to best style a side table lamp.
It turns out all good side tables need 6 basic things…
1. A beautiful statement lamp
Whatever your style, a beautiful lamp is a must for your side table style. The choice is vast so head for a shop like First Choice that offers many different styles and you can shop away and find one that’s right for you and your room.
2. Flowers or a plant
Because flowers and plants bring a bit of the outdoors in and that puts a smile on all out faces! Add a lovely pretty bunch of roses to your bedside and perhaps a green leafy plant in a pot to your living room side table.
3. Books or magazines
Collate some of your favourite reading material. It could be beautiful coffee table books, some home magazines or some pretty vintage finds. Display them standing up or in a pile, whatever floats your boat!
4. A random point of interest
I love adding random, quirky talking points around my house and a side table is the perfect place to display them. It can be anything interesting that you love or that has a story, perhaps a beautiful shell or a little statue you bought in Thaialnd. Looking at it should make you smile and make other people curious as to its origin!
5. A tray
Keep smaller items together and looking tidy by using a tray. Particularly handy for on a bed side table, it’s the perfect place to keep your watch and jewellery overnight.
6. A picture leant against the wall
Lean some artwork or photography in a frame up against the wall. It adds a cool, unstyled kind of look that looks super stylish!
Disclaimer: Thank you to First Choice Lighting for sending me a beautiful lamp which I will be using in my new bedroom. It’s currently being painted but I will be styling up my table very soon, watch this space! As always all thoughts and opinions are my own.
