See if you can remember these 90′s crazes from today’s guest post…
For those of you who grew up in the 90s it was a heady time of Helly Hansen jackets, cheesy commercial dance and of course the big battle between Oasis and Blur (or even Take That and East 17 depending on your preference).

But how much do you really remember from your school days. Here’s what we came up with.
Mongoose BMXs
If you were into BMXing in the 90s, there wasn’t any room to mess about. You had to get yourself down to your local cycle shop and get sorted out properly. If it wasn’t a Mongoose or maybe even a Schwinn, you just weren’t anywhere. And don’t forget pegs on all four wheels – perfect for backies.
Kickers
One sole was red, the other green – strictly no fakes; no one would stand for that. Kickers were the epitome of cool, but fads change and they were very soon to be replaced by Rockport (or Rockie Ps as they were known at our school).
Fubu / Wu Tang hip hop gear
It’s funny to look at Ali G now in his ridiculous garms, but even funnier if you remember how many of us used to dress. Listening to the likes of 36 Chambers might have given you a certain level of credibility at school, but coming in on “own clothes day” dressed head to toe in Wu Wear, Fubu or Sean Jean was next level. It was such a simple time.

Velcro Wall
Remember them? They had them at the school fair a couple of times. Get dressed up in a furry suit – jump at a Velcro wall. They were rubbish.
Games Workshop
Strictly for geeks. We never went there. Well only a couple of times, but we didn’t really like it (well only a little).
Bop It
There were some “must have” toys knocking around in the 90s, but Bop It from the late 90s really takes the biscuit. We loved its timed based musical challenges. We were the kings for a while, maybe it’s still in the basement somewhere.

Fish tail skateboards
You don’t really see these anymore. They were cool in the 90s – they’re not very cool anymore.
Global hypercolour T Shirts
We can’t remember if these were late 80s or early 90s. Either way T shirts that show your sweat – that’s amazing. Well maybe not.

Valentines Underwear set by Playful Promises up for grabs!
If you are anything like me, nice underwear is something I used to concern myself with years ago, before the arrival of Littlelish. These days it is a luxury I don’t seem to permit myself. I grab whatever I can find that is clean and am pleasantly surprised if it actually matches in colour! I think it is not an understatement to say I am wholeheartedly ashamed of my underwear drawer.
Well I’ve let it get far enough. Enough I say! I’ve realised that the last couple of years I haven’t been looking after myself properly. Since the separation I’ve had a little more time to myself and I’ve realised just how much I haven’t permitted myself since being a mum. Time spent on grooming or exercising has vanished and as for treating myself , well that is well and truly a thing of the past. I kept telling myself it was superficial and happiness is to be found elsewhere, yet there is nothing quite like feeling good about yourself and your appearance. It just lifts your confidence and lets you approach the world head on rather than shying off into the dark corner so no-one will see your unkempt eyebrows!

And so ladies, I’ve been underwear shopping! And I’ve discovered this wonderful lingerie brand, designed in London called Playful Promises who in their own words: “mix quirky, directional design with all things playful, flirty and even a little bit dirty.” I like, alot!
What I liked so much about the underwear designs from Playful Promise is that they are sexy and womanly without looking tarty (which I cannot stand!). They have unique designs that are grown up yet flirty and I especially adore the retro twist. Gorgeous, I think you will agree!

So you lucky mummies (and daddies/partners!) the very kind team at Playful Promises have offered one beautiful Valentines Underwear Set (first picture with this post) to giveaway including brief or thong (your choice), suspender belt and bra in your size (from 32a – 36dd and xs – xl). The winner will receive their prize just in time for Valentines day which means you don’t have long to enter so what are you waiting for? Entries through the rafflecopter please! Gooooooooooooooooooooo! (UK residents only, sorry!)

Something that has always fascinated me is trend prediction and the evolution of a new trend. It’s something I studied during my styling education and really captured my interest because it took insight into culture and human psychology combined with design knowledge to predict what new trend may be emerging the coming year/s. Quite often a trend is simply inspired by a new film that is, or is going to be released however.
This Autumn one of the trends you will notice is that for theatrical glamour featuring strong gold and black elements. Inspired by the film The Great Gatsby that is due to be released in 2013, we are harking back to 1920′s Hollywood glamour of the days of F.Scott Fitzgerald. Although perhaps not initially to my taste (I prefer quirky rustic vintage charm) I absolutely LOVE the feel of this moodboard. It’s classy, sophisticated, elegant, not too girly and actually surprisingly warm. The interior image is just divine. I especially love the combination of different fabrics and prints and the mix of black, grey and that lovely matt gold colour.
I’ve combined it with some gorgeous cushions and curtains available from Custom Curtains, this week’s Moodboard Monday sponsor. With so many colours and patterns available it is the perfect place to play pick and mix with different colours and combinations. There really is something for everyone and all budgets (they even have a sale on at the moment). I spent a good 30 mins pouring over all the lovely designs and imagery.

I don’t own nearly enough pairs and I’ve found a company called Kiboots that makes gorgeous boots like these (above) and I must have them. Many moons ago, when pinterest first started I pinned a pair of vintage boots, very similar to these to my ‘want’ list. Trends come and go in interior design. One minute we’re painting our walls in terracotta, the next it’s all about magnolia and feature walls. But there are certain interior trends that don’t go out of fashion. From Art Deco statement mirrors to sleek seventies sideboards, certain iconic styles continue to shape interior design today.
Buying furniture can be expensive so it makes sense to invest in something that won’t go out of fashion quickly. While you’re investing in your home, you may also like to review your contents insurance. So what pieces of furniture should you be on the look-out for when scouring charity shops, car boot sales or vintage fairs? Here’s a look at some of the best classic investments.
Art deco classics
This design movement, which started in the late 1920s, was all about contrasting high gloss materials such as silver and glass with polished dark wood. Stylish and glamorous, Art Deco pieces are still very popular today. If you invest in one Art Deco piece for your home, consider a statement mirror. The high street is awash with reproductions, but you could find the real deal at an affordable price if you’re willing to do some digging. The best places to look are specialty shops, antique fairs or even online. Keep your eyes peeled at car boot sales too, as that’s where you can find the biggest bargains if you’re lucky (and arrive nice and early).

Mid-century pieces
According to Home Designing.com nothing quite says timeless mid-century design more than an iconic chair. Tracking one down for your home would be a great investment as they really can transform an ordinary space into something quite spectacular. Classic examples of the mid-century chair include the suspended Bubble and the futuristic Ball Chair, both designed by Eero Aarnio. They still look like they’ve landed from the future. Another classic is the Egg Chair by Arne Jacobsen that has a distinctive high back and curved design.

Seventies classics
Original furniture from the 1970s can really be a talking point, plus it’s likely to last a lot longer than modern imitations. A sideboard is a great buy for anyone looking for 70s furniture. It looks good, and is highly practical for anyone looking for additional storage. Look for something in a warm honey-toned wood or teak.

I’m going to fess up, I’ve had a pretty rubbish couple of months. For a positive, happy go lucky kind of girl (am I still a girl at 30? ok maybe lady) it can be hard when life doesn’t want to play ball. I’ve been swamped with work (and not the lovely blogging kind) and life seems to be throwing me all these challenges to wade through… and I’m wading… and slowly coming out the other side ;) Littlelish being my little guiding light!
So yeah I’ve been kind of busy and kind of preoccupied but oh my something really bad happened. I forgot one of my dearest friends Birthdays. Totally unforgivable. I just don’t know what happened, I knew it was coming up and there it was gone in the blink of an eye and I didn’t even call her to wish her a Happy Birthday :( She is a better friend than I am because she forgave me straight away.
So I set about trying to make it up (by buying my way back into her heart with jewellery) and stumbled across this little GEM! Too good not to share with you all.
It’s a shop on Etsy called Silk Purse, Sow’s Ear filled with lovely vintage costume jewellery creations.
Vintage Costume Jewelry designed and made in Edinburgh, Scotland by Silk Purse, Sow’s Ear. Specialities include vintage cocktail rings, art deco brooches, vintage Czech glass rings, bird jewellery of every kind, fifties pearl necklaces and fabulously gaudy eighties clip-on earrings. Oh, and horses, stags, rabbits and greyhounds. Gold is preferred to silver, the more tarnished the better.
I was absolutely and utterly spoilt for choice. Vintage cool, simple yet quirky – totally up my street and fingers crossed my friend will love the pieces I’ve chosen for her. What’s more Eilidh has sent it with super quick delivery and a little birthday note with my (grovelling) words. I really do love Etsy for gifts there is such a fantastic choice of unique, handmade and vintage items and dealing directly with the shop owners is normally a really pleasant experience especially when they are like Eilidh :)
I’ll let some of my favourite pieces talk for themselves. Look! Truly adorable right? Go and pay Eilidh a visit, you won’t regret it.

Still laughing…
Just because I don’t really have anything to do apart from; search for a job, work on my freelance projects, arrange a 3 year old Birthday party, write for my blog, carve into bark for my Etsy shop, volunteer AND think of lots of games and activities for Littlelish every day because it is summer holidays! The universe conspired against me and also wondered if I’d like to furnish our entire house in Holland for a new family moving in mid August! This has called for serious shopping, unfortunately not the leisurely snuffling through charity shops that I so love. This is hardcore bargain hunting, scouring the internet for key pieces of furniture, you know like sofas, beds etc. Aaaargh…
Remembering back to the days when we furnished our house the first time around, both my husband and I were full time employed and there was no Littlelish, so we never really had any budgeting issues. Right now our financial situation isn’t looking as rosy as it used to so the budget is incredibly tight and we didn’t really plan to rent our house furnished so it came a little unexpected. This means we have to be extremely selective about what we choose because we also don’t want to just fill the house with old tat. Sure it would be easy but if we are going to do this we are going to do it properly, I don’t do anything by halves!
We took the decision to buy the larger items of furniture in Holland as it would cost far too much to ship everything over. In Holland there is a website called Marktplaats where you can buy second hand furniture from individual sellers. I guess a little like Ebay or the facebook selling groups although I actually find it easier to shop on perhaps because there isn’t so much rubbish to sift through. Don’t have time for rubbish!
We’ve decided to go with a look and feel that is sturdy and robust, natural with a good mix of contemporary and old/vintage. I’m hoping its going to look classically cool and with a funky edge and that it will have general appeal. I’m trying not to make it too much to my taste because I can have rather quirky taste that isn’t everyone’s cup of tea!
So first up on our long list of must haves is a double bed and we have managed to pick up this absolute beauty made of Belgium oak for around 60 pounds excluding mattress of course (all these will be new)! Photo taken is not in our room or even in our house. These will follow when we have the grand task of putting everything together!
Then we found this funky dining room table with 3 real leather chairs and a bench for 170 pounds, I can really imagine this working as a family table in the right setting – our house!
It took us quite a while to find a good sofa that didn’t cost the earth but then we stumbled across these two fantastic and more importantly nearly new, brown designer sofas. First one we can have for 125 pounds the second for 170. All they need is some beautiful cushions, a snuggly throw and bob’s your uncle (I hope!) Which one do you think we should go for? Leave me a comment and let me know!

Isn’t it quite amazing what you can pick up second hand when you are on a budget? Makes me think back to all that money we spent first time round… gulp.
Stay tuned for the next installment! xxx

After weeks of not being able to join in Magpie Monday, with no time to spend rummaging in charity shops I am finally back! And boy what a week it has been. You see as of this week I have a new mission (hopefully not mission impossible) to furnish our 6 bedroom house in Holland ready for new renters in a month!
This is the kind of project I love, but I have to say it would be slightly less stressful had we a large budget. Alas we don’t so I am having to have use every ounce of creativity, style and thriftiness in me to pull this off. Whereas at the beginning of the week the sheer scale of this task had me breaking out in a cold sweat, I think I might actually be enjoying the challenge a little. I went on a small charity shop run on Friday and to a carboot sale on Sunday and this is what I found.
1. A lovely solid country style table with painted legs. It is in good condition and just needs a new lick of (Farrow and Ball) paint on the legs for it to be tip top. £15.
2. A quirky antique leather magazine holder which I just really like. Not sure if this will end up arriving in Holland or if it will be mine! £7.
3. A mirror that just needs a lick of (Farrow and Ball) paint. £1.
4. A bright yellow bread bin. This isn’t old, it’s in far too good condition but I just think it is all sunshiney and warm :) £1.
5. A jug with a cool retro pattern on it again reminds me of sunny sunshine days… I think there is a reoccurring theme here, I want some sun! £1.
6. A set of 6 dishes, small plates, large plates and a serving plate with an awesome blue pattern. My husband and I are not sure if these are too much of an acquired taste even though I love them and something more simple may have to replace them. Oh well I thought they were a bargain for £6.
7. A gorgeous little owl thingamajig (I know there is a name for these but I cannot remember what!) for putting your hot pans on. He will be staying with me. £1.
Have you furnished your house on a budget? Any top tips you’d like to share? (please help!) Leave a comment and show me some support, I have a funny feeling I might just need it :)
I know you are probably eager to see how these beauties will look when completed and in their new home so why don’t you come back next week to find out how I’m getting on!

We had a rather mad week last week and didn’t seem to have a minute to breath let alone leisurely snuffle around charity shops. We did however manage to have some fun downtime at Belton House on Thursday where they also have a little second hand book shop located in the old stables. It is a curious set up which I adore, in each stall they have created wall to wall bookshelves so each one looks like a mini library. I kept on trying to persuade Littlelish it was fine to talk at normal volume but she didn’t believe me! “ssshhhhhhhhh mummy”. Heading straight for the vintage books I managed to pick up this little beauty for a whole 2 pounds which I was rather delighted with. I also found a cool vintage green and red map of Cornwall for 50p which I thought I could use in some crafty way (tbc).
The book I found is called The Mammoth Wonder Book (1930′s) which is a collection of fairy stories and rhymes by authors and poets like the Brothers Grimm, Robert Louis Stephenson and Lewis Carroll. The illustrations of which there are 350 (!) are by Anne Anderson and are so magical.
I know, I know it is another book! Hopefully I’ll find something else next week :) Check out Me and my shadow for some other fab finds!
