When the skyfalls

Good morning. It’s time for Moodboard Monday again! This week Jen and I chose to do the theme of James Bond. Have you seen the new one yet ? I haven’t… but went on the hunt for some image stills from the movie. It was mostly action shots, 007 style but  I wanted to create something original and fashion orientated. Hmmmm…

Then I stumbled across this gorgeous picture of Adele and a wonderful rooftop still from the movie and I was inspired! I adore the soft, muted colour palette, with a touch of warm coppery tones. It gave me the feeling of mystery, intrigue, softness, sophistication, luxury and understated glamour. Perhaps essential qualities for a bond girl?

I set to work collating items that captured the mood which is so much fun to do, especially when there is no budget. I figured I could splash out a bit this week and I think I’ve found some real beauties to strengthen this board. The top photos are in fact the moodboard itself, setting the scene for the tone, colour palette and look I wanted to create and underneath I have translated the look into tangible pieces to wear. I think you will agree it creates a sophisticated, soft, mysterious, glamorous look.

Are you inspired to make your own James Bond moodboard too? Or a moodboard on any other theme? Great! Hunt around for some inspiring imagery to set a mood. You can stop there or you can add a fashion or interiors slant on it. For more tips check out my tutorial on how to make the perfect moodboard.

The Great Gatsby

Something that has always fascinated me is trend prediction and the evolution of a new trend. It’s something I studied during my styling education and really captured my interest because it took insight into culture and human psychology combined with design knowledge to predict what new trend may be emerging the coming year/s. Quite often a trend is simply inspired by a new film that is, or is going to be released however.

This Autumn one of the trends you will notice is that for theatrical glamour featuring strong gold and black elements. Inspired by the film The Great Gatsby that is due to be released in 2013, we are harking back to 1920′s Hollywood glamour of the days of  F.Scott Fitzgerald. Although perhaps not initially to my taste (I prefer quirky rustic vintage charm) I absolutely LOVE the feel of this moodboard. It’s classy, sophisticated, elegant, not too girly  and actually surprisingly warm. The interior image is just divine. I especially love the combination of different fabrics and prints and the mix of black, grey and that lovely matt gold colour.

I’ve combined it with some gorgeous cushions and curtains available from Custom Curtains, this week’s Moodboard Monday sponsor. With so many colours and patterns available it is the perfect place to play pick and mix with different colours and combinations.  There really is something for everyone and all budgets  (they even have a sale on at the moment). I spent a good 30 mins pouring over all the lovely designs and imagery.

Good morning it’s Moodboard Monday again today! Are we feeling inspired this week? Thank you to those of you who linked up and shared your Purple moodboards

Jen over at Love Chic Living came up with the theme Autumn Trends and this weekend I noticed the first red trees and fallen leaves so I’d say it’s definitely here :) and I am loving the crisp sunshine! But Autumn trends – where to begin? There are so many fab fashion trends around this season – military, gothic, baroque, heritage, velvet, leather, optical prints, what to choose? In the end I went for…

A taste of the orient…

This weeks Monday Moodboard theme is “The colour purple“. Purple is such an Autumnal colour, I thought it would make a great Moodboard theme but actually personally speaking, I am not a huge fan. Many years ago it was my favourite colour but I think I may have over done it somewhat and these days I tend to avoid it…

So when it came to making a purple inspired moodboard I wanted to do something to reignite my love of purple and its many shades. I started off by looking for images that I could be inspired by and found this one. I loved the soft tones of purple, the peaceful, tranquil nature of the photograph. I found it inviting and warm despite the cool shades…

I decided to initially create a simple moodboard just using this one image as it set the mood perfectly. But what I also wanted to show you was how one moodboard, one simple image can inspire a whole interior. I went on to translate the colour palette and feelings evoked by this picture into an interior. The first thing you will often work with when translating an interior from a moodboard is colours. You will see I haven’t used all the colours from the moodboard in this particular interior but it can be really useful to have a palette of colours to work with so you know when adding items such as furniture and accessories, what will fit with your theme.

I also wanted to show you how you can recreate the mood of the board in the interior. By using warm wooden pieces and soft texture like the velvet chairs and cushions you can create an inviting, welcoming space. Balancing the cool shades but still with an overall feeling of warmth (just like in the image) this would make a lovely peaceful space to read in. I absolutely need a room like this in my life, a tranquil, soothing place to escape to! What about you?

Would you like to link up a moodboard to Moodboard Monday? Great! Check below for more details about linking up. Can’t wait to see your boards too :)

‘This week, as with most weeks to be honest, I’ve been super excited to put the Moodboard together and have loved sourcing some fabulous London themed products for you. This summer has just been amazing with the Olympics and Paralympics and it helps me fall in love with London all over again. I lived there many years ago, and probably didn’t make the most of it then, but did enjoy it to its max when I visited a lot a few years later! I love its vibrancy and the fact it’s so hip and cool and this inspired me to find some funky designs for the home. Mostly I’ve scoured the wonderful site ‘Not on the High Street’ to find some amazing designs and makes that will give you the essence of London but won’t necessarily mean you have Union Jacks all over the place. Putting the Moodboard together this time, I’ve used Picmonkey, a great free photo collage site which is incredibly easy to use and very good fun. Do go and have a play if you’ve not used it before, you’ll love it! The centrepiece wallpaper is called Londinium by Graham and Brown and was very popular when I featured it on my blog a few months ago. You can find links to all the other products below in case you want to go and hunt them out for your own home. And so, I hope you’ve been inspired to make your own Moodboard and link up with us below in the comments section. We’d love to see what you’ve put together!

Please hop over to Love Chic Living to take a look at my moodboard. This week I created a interior design moodboard with a little twist (there is a spot the landmark game for you to play!)

We’d love to see what you come up with and you still have a 2 weeks to think up a London board and share it with us on the comments before we move on to our next theme… The colour purple!

I’ve recently started a new job so I thought it might be fun to make the theme of Moodboard Monday – A day at the office! Luckily Jen agreed :)

A Day at the Office

Well this week I’ve done something a little different and gone outside my usual comfort zone of home interiors to try incorporating some fashion into my Moodboard.

This week’s theme, A Day at the Office, really had me thinking about my previous career, you know that one before children came along! Well I used to work in IT which was very male dominated and not at all glamorous and girly so I really wanted to focus on everything that my experience wasn’t. My design ideas of glamorous, chic, statement, and modern really helped to keep the brief clear in my mind as I went in search of pieces for the board. Once I’d found the gorgeous day dress I knew where I was going and started adding the other fashion items. I love satchels and high heels, both items I don’t really get to use much working from home and there had to be a notebook too to keep all those lists I’m always making. As for the decor pieces, I’m so in love with Pantone colours right now that the mug had to feature, and I couldn’t leave an office theme without including the classic Eames chair, in orange of course.

Polyvore really is great fun to use. Pick from the items already on the site, or hunt the internet for your design ideals and clip them in using the toolbar button. I used a template for this moodboard but you can use a blank canvas and really build your own unique board. Why not give it a go and join us with your own take on A Day at the Office!

I don’t know about you but I am loving Jen’s board this week. Utterly gorgeous, so colourful and very me! In fact Jen, this moodboard could be made for me :) I would 100% wear the dress from Warehouse as well as the satchel, the heels and the mug! Oh and I could quite imagine the Eames chair looking rather lovely in my office (ha I wish!)

Please hop over to Love Chic Living to take a look at my moodboard. This week I actually went for a interior design moodboard along the Green / Eco theme and created a hip take on the ‘green’ office, hopefully inspiring you to think green too! :)

This weeks new theme is the glorious “London” and I’m so sure after all the Jubilee, Olympics, Paralympics mania you are going to want to join in with this one!

After a weekend of glorious weather and embracing the outdoors at the wonderful Wilderness Festival (more about that to come!) the theme of this weeks Moodboard Monday is a rather appropriate Alfresco Dining!

Moodboard Monday is a collaboration between myself and Jen over at Love Chic Living. I feature Jen’s boards over here at Lish Concepts and she features mine over at Love Chic Living so take it away Jen…

I can’t quite believe how much I’ve enjoyed putting together the Moodboard for this week’s theme of Alfresco Dining. This time I returned to my favourite site www.olioboard.com to pull together my ideas. The last few days have given us a glimpse of what the summer could have been if the warm weather had graced us with its presence and I was inspired to create a board full of sunshine, texture, fire, tropics and nature. On the Olioboard site the options for pulling Moodboards together are endless. American in origin it actually enables you to create your scene and even shop for the products there and then. I found the fabric first and then the orange covered seating and then discovered different textures – wicker, stone, cactus, wood and smooth ceramics. I love the mixture of both the textures and the colours.  My favourite piece? Well actually it’s the fire pit. I am so drawn to a real fire, and building one outdoors really brings us back to nature, and in this case, with added style! Candles, well again they feel very natural, and of course are so practical to ward off the bugs when we’re eating and drinking outdoors.

I have had great fun putting this Moodboard together and would love your comments. Does this remind you of a Summer we haven’t really had? Why not join us and share your Moodboard for Alfresco Dining. It really doesn’t matter how you choose to put one together, as long as you are happy that the end result illustrates the theme for you. Have fun!

Dining Alfresco with Jen looks to be a lot of fun!  I love the fruity colours she has used which really give me a tropical, warm feeling. Aaaahhhh…

Please hop over to Love Chic Living to take a look at my moodboard. I actually created my moodboard before visiting Wilderness Festival this weekend but I seem to have captured the essence of the festival! This moodboard is a glimpse into my soul, my happy place! You will see we took 2 entirely different approaches when looking at the theme and that is the beauty of moodboards they take you on your own creative journey. Nothing is right or wrong!

Morning! This week sees the launch of Moodboard Monday, a collaboration between myself and the fabulous interior design blogger Jen over at Love Chic Living.

As explained last week I will be featuring Jen’s boards over here at Lish Concepts and she will be featuring mine over at Love Chic Living.

This week’s theme was – School’s out for Summer! Take it away Jen…

Jen’s moodboard for “School’s out for the summer!”

So what does that mean to me? Well, it makes me think of holidays, of time spent on the beach, relaxing, laughing and spending time together with family and friends. My Moodboard, I hope, reflects this.  When I was thinking of what my design would be the words that came to mind were: calm, holidays, relaxation, family, and space.  These images are mine, from past holidays when we’ve found amazing coastline and beaches and let the children explore and have fun. I love the scenery and colours; natural, beautiful and calm. It struck me, after I’d put the Moodboard together that I’ve used colours like this in my home and I guess I’m subconsciously drawn to them because of what the remind of, and of what they represent for me.  Here’s hoping for lots more sunshine and time spent on the beach this summer.

I love the natural palette Jen has created from these beach images. It is so soft and soothing. I am a huge fan of the beach for the wild nature, the sea air and the way it seems to have the power to relax everyone. If you are thinking of a beach inspired interior it could be wonderful to use a colour palette such as this with natural materials such as pebbles, wood and seaglass for a refreshing take on beach living.

Please hop over to Love Chic Living to take a look at my moodboard. I was inspired by long, hot summer days filled with fun, colour, energy and light. You will see we took 2 entirely different approaches when looking at the theme and that is the beauty of moodboards they take you on your own creative journey. Nothing is right or wrong!

This weeks new theme is one of my favourite things to do! Alfresco dining

If you are a regular reader you might have guessed by now that I rather like moodboards. They are a fab tool to inspire, give structure and refer to when on a creative journey of any kind. Whether you are creating a new interior, organising an event or a stylist working on the look and feel of just about anything!  So when the fabulous interior design blogger Jen over at Love Chic Living and I decided we really should put our creative brains together (what’s that saying… 2 heads are better than 1!) Moodboard Monday was born.

Moodboard Monday will be a fortnightly feature where we create a moodboard inspired by a certain theme. I will be featuring Jen’s moodboards on Lish Concepts and she will be featuring mine over at Love Chic Living! She will be focusing on her main area interior design and I will be featuring fashion, interior and general moodboards which could be applied to anything (similar to my colourlish boards) – I’ll see what inspires me that week!

The fun part is Moodboard Monday is open to anyone else who would like to join in! Jen and I know it will probably be just us for a few weeks until you get into the mood haha! If you fancy having a go just check in on a Monday to find out what the theme is for the following week then pop back the following Monday, grab the button from over in the sidebar and link up your creation!
