Last Thursday we excitedly packed our suitcases into the car, the sun was already shining, bringing with it promises of an awesome couple of days. We were heading off to Holland to attend the wedding of the year and visit dear friends and family, perfect I hear you cry! The plane journey passed without a worry and before we could blink we’d touched down in Amsterdam. Glorious sunshine met us as the plane door opened and we relished that holiday feeling.
5 minutes into the car journey there were signs of trouble in paradise. Yes my lovely followers we had brought the tummy bug with us. A heavy night of vomiting and “melty poo” as Littlelish fondly calls it, followed. By 6am the following morning we were traipsing to the emergency doctors. Poor little mite couldn’t keep anything down, she was floppy, weak and miserable. She was rushed to hospital where they took blood from her several times (attempt 1 (fail) in arm, attempt 2 (fail) in other arm, attempt 3 (successful) in hand plus from her finger tips 3 times! Bless) before giving her fluids through a tube in her nose (awful!). It was honestly one of the worst days of my life. Daddylish and I reassured her everything was going to be ok but the way she looked at us as if to say “Why are you letting them do this to me”? was truly heartbreaking. We tried our very hardest to stay strong for her, I even tried to take her away from the hospital room by talking her through a visualisation which actually worked really well. We weren’t in the hospital having every last bit of blood squeezed from our finger, we were in our sunny garden, picking buttercups and hunting for ladybirds… if only. Littlelish has a fantastic imagination and she was momentarily transported which it made it a little more bearable. She spent the rest of the day sleeping in her hospital bed with Daddylish and I watching over her nervously. Once her sugar levels were stable and she was rehydrated (9pm) we were free to go. We breathed a huge sigh of relief.
Littlelish bounced back at record speed and by the next morning she was bright enough for us to attempt the wedding…. and what a wedding! Bright sunshine, picturesque church on a hill, beautiful shining bride, ultra cool groom, cute flowergirls throwing petals (Littlelishs very important job), gospel choir belting out “if I ain’t got you”. Then back to an outdoor festival themed party in the most stunning garden complete with open air dance floor, outside food areas where you could pick up your own homemade pizza or wok creation, chill out area with bean bags and hammocks. It was a perfectly cool wedding where every last detail had been thought out with style. We enjoyed the informality and despite our set back the previous day we had lots of fun celebrating!
The next day it was time to catch up with friends. By this time Daddylish had fallen ill and was bedridden so Littlelish and I ventured off to the famous Vondelpark on bikes with our friends and their children. We picnicked in the sunshine, we blew bubbles, we used a magnifying glass to write the children’s names in wood. We soaked up Amsterdam’s unique cosmopolitan, relaxed, creative vibe. The evening was spent sharing a glass of wine and a pizza with some more close friends. The perfect end to a perfect summers day.
So really a weekend of two halves, on one hand it was amazing to be at the wedding of the year, soak up the Amsterdam vibe, spend time with friends and family but we could have done without the detour to the hospital and Daddlylish being in bed ill all weekend…. and now to top it all off. Yup you’ve guess it, hellooooooo tummy bug.

The lovely lady at Bambino Green (100% world friendly) sent us some incredible soy crayon rocks to try out and we loved them! Being an artist and working with lots of different mediums I am not particularly fond of crayons. I know, I know, they are for children but crayons just have this horrible scratchy feel and let’s face it, it is not easy to make something pretty with them is it? But Crayon Rocks are not like normal crayons, no siree.
Packaged in a small calico bag Littlelish took great delight at the small (2 inch) rainbow pebbles inside. Not only are they fun to look at but they are specially shaped for little fingers to hold and cleverly improve their tripod grip which is very important for when they start writing (this is excellent for us with Littlelish being a lefty). They also draw like a dream. The texture is much softer than normal crayons and the bright vibrant colours glide smoothly on the paper. Littlelish and I took them out to play in the sunshine yesterday….
Crayon rocks are made with American soy bean wax and other natural waxes and are available at www.bambinogreen.co.uk. Bambino Green is an online gift shop for children stocking 100% world friendly products (which means fair trade and created with respect for the environment). Their products are all carefully sourced and beautifully wrapped which means they are perfect for sending straight to the lucky receiver!
We are definitely planning on doing a style spot on Green Bambino in the near future because they have so many FAB items we want to share with you all but for now Bambino Green are kindly offering some Crayon Rocks to one lucky winner!
All you need to do to enter is fill in your details with the Rafflecopter below. The winner will be chosen on the 31st of May.
Good luck!

This guy has the smoothest most captivating voice I’ve heard in a long time and I love to watch him perform (a little too much!). So this weeks treasury is inspired by him and his awesome style. Good luck Tyler :)
Ps: I might print this out and put it on my inspirations board so I can gaze at it seeing as I’m a little too old for a poster haha!

We had a rather mad week last week and didn’t seem to have a minute to breath let alone leisurely snuffle around charity shops. We did however manage to have some fun downtime at Belton House on Thursday where they also have a little second hand book shop located in the old stables. It is a curious set up which I adore, in each stall they have created wall to wall bookshelves so each one looks like a mini library. I kept on trying to persuade Littlelish it was fine to talk at normal volume but she didn’t believe me! “ssshhhhhhhhh mummy”. Heading straight for the vintage books I managed to pick up this little beauty for a whole 2 pounds which I was rather delighted with. I also found a cool vintage green and red map of Cornwall for 50p which I thought I could use in some crafty way (tbc).
The book I found is called The Mammoth Wonder Book (1930′s) which is a collection of fairy stories and rhymes by authors and poets like the Brothers Grimm, Robert Louis Stephenson and Lewis Carroll. The illustrations of which there are 350 (!) are by Anne Anderson and are so magical.
I know, I know it is another book! Hopefully I’ll find something else next week :) Check out Me and my shadow for some other fab finds!

Belton House is one of Littlelish and my favourite hangouts. I’m not sure that we’ve even been in the house which is stunning because with a 2 year old it is always the gorgeous gardens and giant wooden adventure playground that have a magnetic pull. So far it has always been a fair weather kind of destination. But the clever folks at Belton House have noticed we seem to get rather a large amount of rain in this country (hmmm hadn’t noticed!) and have decided to convert one of the many outbuildings of the main house into an indoor play area. Seen as the sun has still not decided to make an appearance we went to see what it was like and loved it!
Despite being located in the grounds of the stately home the look and feel of the play area is very modern. My kind of modern, the kind of design that I miss from Holland. It is located in a lofty barn which has been kitted out with a lovely warm yet industrial style cafe where they serve lush coffee and cake as well as warm meals. They have made one half of the barn the cafe and the other the play area. It is not big enough to lose any children which is fab as you can generally always spot them from the comfort of your seat (with said coffee and cake) unless of course they are hiding in a tunnel. Littlelish is not the kind of child to toddle off and play sans mummy in a play area. Who would play crawling in the goblins cave or sleeping in the rabbits warren with her? So off I went to explore, but I have to say I was more than happy to, it looked fun!
They have kept the play area natural, no garish colours normally found in soft play. The construction is built from wood with faux grass and water on the floor area. There are hills, mushrooms, bee hives and a giant toadstool in and among the slides and climbing apparatus. The walls are papered with forest, it was lovely and relaxing which can not often be said about a play area! I found this really stimulated the imagination, much, much more than a normal soft play place. You felt like you were climbing to the tree tops, scampering through rabbits warrens or making honey in a bee hive… honestly you did! Littlelish loved exploring all the areas and I was dragged along for the ride which I have to state was rather necessary as it was near on impossible for her to climb up onto most of the apparatus, it was just too tall. I’m not sure if this was done on purpose but it seemed we were not the only ones struggling and there were children of 4 that also had to have their mothers lift them up or hold their hand whilst exploring. There are some things to do on ground level but it all seems very geared to climbing up up up which wasn’t easy for the little ones. Luckily she has a very obliging mother ;)
I especially loved the addition of little panels where you could press a button to hear the sound of bees or a waterfall or smell honey, cut grass and wet soil. It all added to the natural feel and gave the play area an extra dimension which I liked. We spent a good few hours playing all kinds of imaginary games and put all the structure to the test – mummy even went down the slides and in the very cramped ‘goblin’s house’.
I’d definitely suggest it is worth a trip if you are in the area and a national trust member (otherwise entrance to the grounds, not including the house, will cost 9.50 for Adults, 6.30 for children including gift aid). Don’t forget to check out the beautiful formal gardens, parkland, adventure playground and secondhand book store located in the stables (where I also managed to pick up some vintage maps and sewing magazines for 50p!). It is a great family destination, now come rain or shine! http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/belton-house/
